Re: alternatives

I installed Zenwalk, based on Slackware, and it is rocket fast. It handles dependencies when installing packages so it's sort of like an easy to use version of Slackware. I'm using XFCE for the DE and would recommend giving it a try.

Re: alternatives

Hi Jim. NIce to see you again :) I've used Sparky and Ubuntu Mate and like them both. It seems like we both are hesitant to get involved with the new Solus Project for the same reasons though the desktop environment looks amazing. I think I'm done spending any significant time with distros that may ...

Re: alternatives

I've been mostly using LMDE 2 (Debian Jessie) and Mint 17 (Ubuntu). Occasionally, I'll boot into Point 2.3 or MX-15 from the Mepis community (Debian Jessie, XFCE with a very ugly default taskbar out of the box). Was with the original Solus for quite some time and then moved on to Point. I decided I ...

Re: inxi

Thanks Maroman! Nice to see you :) inxi is very informative software for sure. When I read your post I recalled a website that has some very useful scripts (including inxi, video drivers and more). Check out http://smxi.org/ for additional scripts and installation instructions. I've used sgfxi to in...

Re: Firefox Updated to the Latest :)

but ironically, there is the newer version at the moment. changes so fast. errors? maybe switching directly to mozilla deb repository to install iceweasel instead? A big issue was fixed: "Firefox displays a black screen at start-up with certain graphics drivers." Release notes here: https...

Re: Install Grub-Customizer in Point Linux

Maroman is correct in that Grub is not that difficult to modify. However, I'm not particularly interested in doing so manually so that's where easy to use GUI tools like Grub-Customizer or Startup-Manager (no longer in development) come into the picture. I saw a good explanation in the CrunchBang fo...

Re: MATE 1.8 in wheezy backports

Sorry Marek. I didn't mean to lead you astray. I never use Bluetooth so it's disabled in startup. I originally enabled wheezy-backports for the newer kernel but have an image of the non-backport version of PL 2.3 just in case. I've never had anything break in the backported version but then again, I...

Re: MATE 1.8 in wheezy backports

I upgraded from Mate 1.4 to 1.8.1 via the Wheezy backports in Point 2.3.1. The upgrade was successful though the following happened: 1- I previously had a single panel at the bottom of the screen. After the update, I had a panel at the top and one at the bottom and all of my application icons previo...
