Re: Why no Swap Partition on install?

I'm running 2GB of RAM and I doubt that I'd ever use Swap during normal operation but from all I've read if you suspend your computer you need Swap for the stuff in RAM to be stored in on the Hard Drive. I just went a head and made a 2GB Swap Partition and set it to swapon so I'm good to go. It's cr...

Why no Swap Partition on install?

Why doesn't Point Linux create a swap partition when you install it? All I get is one bit ext4 partition with root, home and grub in it but no swap.

Re: Any special tweaks to run PL 3.x on an SSD?

Main thing I did was cut 10% off and leave it Unallocated and I go in and do an fstrim -v / every now and again. From what I've read most modern SSD Firmware automatically will Trim them and keep things running right long as you don't fill them too full, hence the 10% Unallocated part.

Re: Point 3.0 beta issues

Gdebi Package Installer isn't working either. Seems to work fine in "Stable" but in 3.0b1 and also in a SolydX install which is Debian "Testing" Gdebi just doesn't work. I have quite a few .deb packages that I need to install but can't because of this little bug. :pardon:

Re: Problem with gdebi in PL 3.x.

So has anyone figured this out yet? Why isn't Gdebi Package Installer working in 3.0b1?? It seems to work fine under 2.3 "Stable" but for some reason under "Testing" it won't work to install .deb packages, any clue as to why or what I can use to install .deb packages if Gdebi won...

Any special tweaks to run PL 3.x on an SSD?

Just wonder if there's any special tweaks that I need to do in order to run Point Linux 3.x on an SSD? I'm getting errors at the start, right after Grub. Memory isn't good enough to tell ya' what they are, LOL but I have to "hit any key to continue" then it'll boot to the log in screen whe...

Problem with gdebi in PL 3.x.

I have some gdebi files that I need to install and I downloaded gdebi but when I try to install my files it opens quickly then closes just as quickly with no install. Don't understand why gdebi wouldn't work with a Debian Distro. Any insight to what's going on here?

Re: How about some SDR support?

Gqrx is what I've been using to play around with my SDR dongle. I've read that it's coming to Debian Testing on April 15th. I've been running Kali and more recently went to SolydX Home Edition which is Debian Testing but I'm going to download and install Point Linux 3.x since it's also suppose to be...

Re: problems with Microsoft office. [IDEAS?]?

Why run a crappy MicroSoft product when there are so many great open source options to be had. LibreOffice totally rocks and for mail you can use Thundbird and keep your open source goodness with your Point Linux install. :D

Re: SDR for Point LInux.

Well, I got my SDR working. Had to install Kali Linux 1.0.6 to get it to work since it has SDR stuff pre-installed. It's a Debian based OS, same as Point Linux. Can't see any reason why we can't have SDR stuff like Gqrx preinstalled on Point but that's just the way it is I guess.
