I believe it's normal. That's how Debian uses its metapackages (not the best thing to do, imho). I'm no expert on apt but i don't know of any way to make it possible within apt infrastructure. You could take the other kernel package, modules package etc, extract it, cp it into appropriate destinatio...

Yes i've read that. I thought of my proposition as a way to avoid multiple editions - one edition with more implied customization.
But basically i'm not taking sides in this dilemma.

Might be wortwhile to look at the #!, thery have an experience with a backports setup.

Do you want to use Debian backports repo or create a Pointlinux-specific one? As i've learnt recently (thanks Maroman!) Debian backports unfortunately aren't that dependable - there are deps missing for example - so enabling them by default might give rise to problems with stability and just-works!-...
