Of course Peter has said a few times that MATE 1.6 isn't stable with Compiz and I REALLY Love my Compiz so I'm going to stick with the older version for now.

by the way and a little out of topic. drum, you can built your own distro from the scratch (Debian cli or similar + mate + lightdm, repos as you wish) with the newest mate desktop. once I built mine on Debian testing

and there is question to Peter. maybe it would be good idea to have point cli (without gui but with all needed repos non-free, mate and so on)

Is it really needed? 'Cause you can always make a Debian netinst install and then add the PL repos.

Is it possible to create a "Jessie" release with a "MATE 1.4" desktop enviroment?

MATE 1.6 went back to using gsettings instead of mate.conf, so, compiz no longer works
nor does my remastersys.

I always dread linux distro upgrades as they always seem to break the things I love.

I was over a year finding Taya 2.2. I don't want to lose the features I love for an upgrade
that seems to give me nothing I miss and breaks what I love.

If I install jessie and add the current PL repos, will I end up with Pointlinux Jessie with MATE 1.4?

:pardon:

Rob, you should add some more elements. but the question is. for what do you need jessie? If you need newer kernel you can install it from the backports.

there is my system.
Code: Select all
uname -a
Linux asupo 3.11-0.bpo.2-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.11.10-1~bpo70+1 (2013-12-17) x86_64 GNU/Linux
and
Code: Select all
lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID:   PointLinux
Description:   Point Linux 2.2 (taya)
Release:   2.2
Codename:   wheezy

I've installed almost everything (drivers, plseaudio, samba etc). works fine or even better :good: . finally, it's almost jessie.
