Mate Desktop settings

Previously I have used Linux Mint but switched to Point Linux a while ago because its rolling Debian base is preferable to short term Ubuntu base and Point seems to better integrated with the MATE desktop (which seems odd considering the Gnome 2.x fork MATE initiated by Linux Mint).

My problem is with the apparent lack of MATE desktop settings program that could remove the Home and Wastebasket icons from the Desktop folder. Does anyone know if there a way, or a program one could download and install to accomplish this?

configuration editor (from system tools). find applications, caja, desktop and uncheck appropriate boxes. almost all mate setting can be found in configuration editor.

Like most things related to computers - simple when you know how, impossible when you don't. Thanks for the clear instructions. Worked fine.
