oh boy. what a mess. there is not a problem with update manager but with some of your repositories.
firstly for the main one (/etc/apt/sources.list)
Code: Select all
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ wheezy main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ wheezy-updates main contrib non-free

I'm afraid cdn is not working so I've changed writing the exact mirrors. you can find other mirrors as well (for the states add us. after ftp.).

next for /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pointlinux.list
Code: Select all
deb http://cdn.pointlinux.org/pointlinux/ taya main contrib non-free
# deb-src http://cdn.pointlinux.org/pointlinux/ taya main contrib non-free

(your is ok)

that's all.

remember, files with save endings are backups. some files with list endings are empty. you can delete both list and list.save files (understand you've deleted applications and repositories for them). and for future use - do not mixed repositories. ppa are generally for buntus.

so, change sources.list, leave pointlinux.list, delete the rest (of course all as root with gksu pluma). next use apt-get commands to update and upgrade your system.

cheers

Thanks again Maroman for your help.

Just so I am clear before making any changes, are you saying that my /etc/apt/sources.list should only contain
Code: Select all
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ wheezy main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ wheezy-updates main contrib non-free

or that the first three lines should be changed to match the three lines of code you gave me?

I understand the rest.

I did as you instructed, but Update Manager still does not launch from the menu. :%)

I modified /etc/apt/sources.list so that it only contains the lines of code you gave me.
I deleted both the empty list files and list.save files.
I ran apt-get update and apt-get upgrade and rebooted.

When I enter update-manager in the terminal I still get: [CRITICAL:UpdateManager.Application] Invalid implementation name PointLinux :crazy:

:cry: :cry: :cry: :cry:

Re: Update Manager does not launch [SOLVED]

:Bravo: :Bravo: :Bravo: :Bravo: :Bravo: :Bravo:

I ran an internet search on: [CRITICAL:UpdateManager.Application] and found this on a Linux Mint forum:

[CRITICAL:UpdateManager.Application] Invalid implementation name LinuxMint.

The same error I was having except I'm on Point Linux.
It was suggested:

In a terminal, do this:
su
<enter password to become root>
aptitude update && aptitude full-upgrade
<post any error messages>

If no error messages you now have a fully-updated system.

After I ran aptitude update && aptitude full-upgrade commands with sudo, Update Manager now runs from the menu.
Thanks Maroman for all your help.
