You do not have PackageKit

You do not have PackageKit

Postby abloylas » 09 Oct 2013, 10:22

Because I really like Point Linux and I have not found any bigger issues yet, I'm writing to complain about a very small issue:

When I right-click on man panel and choose Help, I get the following:

"Document Not Found
The URI ‘ghelp:user-guide?gospanel-1#gospanel-1’ does not point to a valid page.
Search for packages containing this document."

When I click on the link to search I get the following:

"You do not have PackageKit. Package install links require PackageKit."

I tried installing packagekit from the repos, but it makes no difference.

What would be a good place to submit bug reports in the future?

PackageKit has nothing to do with it. The problem is that MATE devs did not convert the Gnome 2 help files and they are not present in MATE (and so in Point Linux and any other MATE based distros). They wanted to replace it with online help in the future but it has yet to be done as far as I know. So far we have to live with it and I don't think it's a big problem...

Thanks for the reply. Only you didn't say where to report bugs in the future.

Here are two more minor issues with synaptic:
In synaptic, under Software sources -> Updates, it says "Notify me of a new Ubuntu version".
This is not Ubuntu, is it?
Also: Under PointLinux software, there is no checkmark for the repositories, and if I try to add one it doesn't stay put.

This is of course mostly aesthetics, but aesthetics is important, I think.

About the "Notify me of a new Ubuntu version"
About the checkboxes

So as you see these bugs are well known and I hope and pray they'll be fixed ASAP.

As for the bug reports, I plan to make a separate bug tracker.

Thank you very much indeed for the info. Like I said, I really like Point Linux. I believe it has the same type of goals as SolusOS, http://solusos.com/. Have you had any contact with the creator of SolusOS?
