recently I've found very nice system icons (cp. http://www.iconspedia.com/pack/vista-disc--6/). firstly I've used some of them for windows xp disc. im my windows data partition/disc I created Autorun.inf text file
Code: Select all
[Autorun]
Icon=.\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\App\Graphics\xphdisc.ico
Label=PortableApps.com

(I'm using portableapps.com applications. primary icon is for the launcher. please note I've added .\ at the beginning of the path)
and subsequently I've tried the method for point. of course icon is seen if partition is mounted. I've mounted ntfs (data) and ext4 (depot) partition via fstab but it's not obligatory. the method for windows partition works also for mate desktop (the path syntax is of windows style). so I've add /media/depot/Autorun.inf (at the highest directory level of depot partition) in the following form
Code: Select all
[Autorun]
Icon=/media/depot/Dropbox/Photos/Albums/pix/box_debian_disc.ico
Label=depot

and here is the result
