I would pick Wheezy. I like the most stable version. Not looking for cutting edge.

PL was stable from the beginning and should remain so (-> vote for Wheezy).

In fact 2.X branch will not go away with the 3.X release. 2.X is the LTS release in Ubuntu terminology.

I vote for Jessie, Debian by it's very nature is stable so even "cutting edge" should be fine plus I'm sure it'll have bug fixes and firmware/driver updates that would be nice.
