lordmmx, you are welcome here! :)

You get error like this on these machines:
This kernel requires the following features not present on the CPU:
pae

Unable to boot - please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU.

lordmmx, the problem is that you currently can't install Point Linux in a normal (LiveCD/DVD) fashion as the old CPUs you have do not support PAE extensions. The reason why the PAE kernel was chosen is that there are not many Non-PAE PCs left, people defenitely need PAE build and it's pretty hard to develop, test and maintain yet another Non-PAE flavor having the hardware that I have. Non-PAE build will be added later if the project gains popularity and there will be more user requests about it.

Howerver, there is a method that will probably work for you:
1. Perform a core Debian wheezy netinst installation on these machines. No DE, no MW, no bells and whistles, just the minimal install required to boot Debian.
2. Add to your /etc/apt/sources.list:
Code: Select all
deb http://cdn.pointlinux.org/pointlinux/ taya main contrib non-free

3. Update package lists and install 'pointlinux-mate-desktop' metapackage.

This should work, it was not tested though.

or you can install with pae kernel on a new maschien and then
install a none pae kernel and put the harddisk back into your old maschine

Code: Select all
sudo apt-cache search linux-image*

Code: Select all
linux-headers-3.2.0-4-486 - Header files for Linux 3.2.0-4-486
linux-image-3.2.0-4-486 - Linux 3.2 for older PCs
linux-image-2.6-486 - Linux for older PCs (dummy package)
linux-image-2.6-686 - Linux for modern PCs (dummy package)
linux-image-486 - Linux for older PCs (meta-package)
linux-image-686 - Linux for modern PCs (dummy package)
nvidia-kernel-3.2.0-4-486 - NVIDIA binary kernel module for Linux 3.2.0-4-486

Yours sincerely

If i do a netinst of debian wheezy and install the minimal system and then add
deb http://cdn.pointlinux.org/pointlinux/ taya main contrib non-free to the /etc/apt/sources.list

i will get this error after apt-get update:

NO_PUPKEY FC5CBE2B09842D13

and so the apt-get install pointliux-made-desktop will fail

So how can i solve this
