Firefox videos crackly audio

Postby Wing Nut » 05 Dec 2013, 02:18

I'm a long-time Linux user and recent Point Linux convert using v2.2 64bit . However, I'm far from being a Linux expert and I've run out of simple ways to fix a Firefox/flashplayer audio problem. On all YouTube and Vimeo-like video clips, the audio plays as if it's on an old 45 vinyl record - very scratchy and slightly broken every few seconds. I suspect it might be worse when the audio is at its loudest points.

I have good land-line ADSL2+ connection that has worked fine in Firefox on other devices and on previous 64bit Linux installations. The player's progress bar buffer line suggests there's plenty of data available ahead of time. Other dedicated media players (VLC and Totem) work fine playing the same on-line (and off-line) media files in Point, as do audio-only playbacks on-line in Firefox (for instance - http://www.zedge.net/ringtone/1154570/b ... e-up-sound ... works fine, however, this one is scratchy - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIELdEhiskc)

I've tried re-installing Firefox, and its Flash and VLC plug-ins, without any improvement in the clip's audio. Since the audio scratchiness is only apparent when playing on-line videos through Firefox, I assume it's a Firefox plug-in problem, but what more can I do? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
