INSTALLATION PROBLEM ON ASUS G51JX LAPTOP

Postby ggau » 26 May 2014, 10:58

Hello Point Linux folk, I have installed Point Linux on my Desktop and Laptop with NO issues what so ever, Just Love everything about it. I am a Convert.
I have acquired an other laptop, It is a ASUS G51JX, i7 Core, ( Republic of Games ) and I cant install the 64 bit OS,
Zero Fill the HDD, Fresh ISO burnt to Disc.
All looks good, It starts normal, then it checks and writes 5-6 lines.
After it writes : Starting Common Unix Printing System : cupsd.
Then half the screan turns into a black and white maze and the rest of screen is just different colored. Thats it. Nothing else happens.
I have tried using ubootin, made a usb install, exactly the same problem.
I attempted to install Manjaro, 64 bit, Same Problem.
Strangely enough, I tried Linux-lite 64 bit , It installed perfectly????.
No issues, it works fine.
Please any advice would be appreciated, Much Thanks in Advance.

difficult to guess but it might be bios/uefi problem. I have three asus notebooks and the newer, the worst to install. check the number and functionality of your bios (esc of f2 during start). in the newest one (210 or higher) it' impossible to switch into bios mode. so you can't install any distro not supporting uefi boot. you can also downgrade your bios but it's rather risky.

I'm afraid that the number of possible distros is a bit limited. linux-lite (ubuntu based) is not so bad choice. and probable you can install other buntus and their derivatives.

cheers,
