Kazam

Kazam

Postby amtrakuk » 27 Jun 2014, 09:40

Hi there.

I'm flirting with ubuntu alternatives and came across Point linux. Very pleased with the straight forward gnome 2 interface and shortlisted it as a viable option.

When I was using Ubuntu i used Kazam for screencasting due to its ease of use, reliability and ability to capture an area of the screen along with sound from the speakers. I'm hoping there is a version for Point Linux, as a newby from the world of Ubuntu which is mainly click and install I am hoping someone can assist.

Assumption time

As Point Linux is based on Debian I came across https://packages.debian.org/unstable/main/kazam - it would be great if someone can assist in helping me install this onto point.

Fingers crossed and thanks in advance.

kazam is ubuntu application. we use point - debian stable derivative. you have found kazam in unstable branch but the sid repository shouldn't be added to point ones.

please look at the following article http://linuxtechhowto.blogspot.com/2013/07/installing-kazam-screencaster-on-debian.html how to install kazam on debian. however I'm not the fan of presented solution it might work. what about looking for alternatives? I'm sure there is something instead.

cheers,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I used to using Kazam, prob because it was heavily recomended by the ubuntu community and with good reason - its a great package. However I'm going to take onboard trying an alternative. Can anyone recommend any screen recorders that also capture the speakers simaltaniously.

I seemed to remember there is/was something called "Record my desktop" I played around with a year or so ago and for some reason or another didn't continute using it.

Sadly I tried the kazam option in that link which did install but was unusably buggy - not unexpected seeing as though it was designed for Ubuntu not Debian. It seem my theory of Ubuntu packages should run on Debian has gone bang.

I tried RecordMyDesktop..... Well tried and tried and tried, I think you will need to be a specialist to get the Audio working with that package

Does anyone have any easy Audio/Video capture software in mind?

@amtrakuk - One suggestion that you might try is a program in the repositories named guvcview
recordmydesktop was an audio fail for me also, but guvcview picked up video and audio just fine. Give it a try and let us know how it worked out for you.
